planning the us
I need to spend some time with the Lonely Planet guidebooks to work out just what I am going to do in my whirlwind trip to the US. LA, Chicago, New York and Washington DC on the agenda. Any tips?

monet back in town
One of the finest exhibitions of Impressionist art ever held in Australia is coming to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. This is a rare chance to see some of the world’s most famous and most loved paintings, including Monet’s Water lilies and Haystacks. From October 11 we have Monet and the Impressionists.

the lost buddhas
Lost for over 800 years – the discovery of some 400 Buddhist figures by construction workers levelling a sports field is considered one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century. Time to head off to the Art Gallery of NSW to check out The Lost Buddhas.

europe?
I've been invited by two separate friends to consider trips to Spain/Portugal and Germany this December; and I am also hoping to visit Italy and Switzerland for work next year. I have been doing some preliminary planning - but I really need to find some time to sit down and do a little more work to see if it is doable.

australian painters photographed
Australian Painters Photographed is on at the State Library of NSW and consists of 61 large colour photographic studies of the artists in their studios by National Geographic photographer R Ian Lloyd accompanied with text by John McDonald, art critic for The Sydney Morning Herald and former Head of Australian Art at the National Gallery of Australia.

vampire weekend/little red
I like Vampire Weekend. I like Little Red. They are both performing at the Metro in a couple of weeks time. Tickets purchased - stuff to do.

biennale is on
Biennale is on at the moment. I love my contemporary art and with over 180 artists exhibiting - it is a good time of the year.

goma: picasso
Lucky for me I am attending a conference in Brisbane in the last week of the exhibition Picasso & His Collection. This is a pretty amazing opportunity - the first time that Picasso's personal collection has left Europe. Very cool. Now I need to work out how to get the time off the conference to spend it at GoMA.

three elephants
While in Luang Prabang, Jonathan and I are going to head off to check out a cooking school at the Three Elephants restaurant. It includes a shopping exhibition to one of the local markets and then cooking your own lunch and dinner dishes. Sounds pretty fun even though I am not much of a foodie.

film festival
The Sydney Film Festival - on in June - starts selling seats on May 12th, so early next week I need to get in and grab myself a FlexiPass so I can go off and buy lots of tickets when things go on sale.
